What happens

Magazine editor George Stroud quits his job at Earl Janoth's publishing empire after clashing with his boss, then celebrates at a bar where he meets a glamorous woman named Pauline York. Their evening takes a strange turn when a brass sundial, a green ribbon and a handkerchief become tangled in a search for a mysterious man called Mr. Green. The episode is part of the Screen Directors Playhouse series, broadcast on July 8, 1949, and stars Ray Milland and Maureen O'Sullivan in an adaptation of Kenneth Fearing's novel The Big Clock. George soon finds himself hunted by his own employer, with time running out for him to clear his name.

Characters: George Stroud, Earl Janoth, Steve Hagen, Georgette Stroud, Pauline York, Mr. Cole

Listen for: The growing sense of time running out for George as Janoth closes in, and the ticking of the big clock throughout the story

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
