What happens

Screen Directors Playhouse presents a 1949 radio adaptation of the romantic comedy Suddenly It's Spring, broadcast March 27, 1949, starring Fred MacMurray. Captain Peter Morley returns from the war to New York, where his estranged wife Mary, also his law partner, waits for him. Both want a quick divorce, but their plans keep getting derailed by misunderstandings, a rival's interference and a cross-country train trip. Along the way they revisit the memories and possessions of their marriage. Virginia Gregg plays Mary, and the program is introduced by director Mitchell Leisen.

New York City and Chicago, shortly after the end of the Second World War

Characters: Peter Morley, Mary Morley, Violet, Jack Lindsey

Listen for: Peter and Mary's exchanges at the Moonlight Terrace and in the apartment, where they go through their belongings

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
