What happens

Squadron Leader Peter Carter, a wartime RAF pilot, bails out of his burning bomber without a parachute and is drawn into a strange afterlife bureaucracy in a realm between heaven and earth. There he meets June, an American woman, and the two fall in love while Peter's case is judged. Robert Cummings and Julia Adams star in this Screen Director's Playhouse presentation, a transcribed production from NBC's All-Star Festival, first broadcast on July 26, 1951. The story follows Peter's appeal and the questions raised about his fate, as June and a sympathetic doctor try to understand his worsening symptoms.

Listen for: Peter's headaches and strange hallucinations, and his appeal against being sent on to the afterlife

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
