What happens

Lee Leander, a young woman accused of stealing a diamond bracelet from a Fifth Avenue jeweler, is prosecuted by John Sargent, a district attorney. Her lawyer, O'Leary, argues she was hypnotized, and the case is continued until after Christmas. Released on bail, Lee accompanies Sargent to his home in Indiana, where his mother and aunt welcome her for the holiday. Sargent becomes increasingly torn between his duty and his feelings for her. This is a radio adaptation of the 1949 film Remember the Night, broadcast on Screen Director's Playhouse on October 31, 1949, with Barbara Stanwyck in the role of Lee Leander.

Manhattan and Indiana, around Christmas, late 1940s

Characters: Lee Leander, John Sargent, O'Leary, Judge Smith, Mrs. Sargent, Aunt Emma, Mr. Meyer

Listen for: The courtroom exchanges between Sargent and Lee, and the scenes at the Sargent farm during the holiday week.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
