What happens

Captain Alan Quinton, wounded in Italy during the war, receives letters from home while recovering. He recalls a vision of a woman he has never met, Victoria, to whom he has written love letters under the name of his friend Roger Moreland. When Roger marries Victoria, Alan travels to England and meets Singleton, a woman who has lost her memory. Screen Director's Playhouse presented this radio drama in 1949, starring Joseph Cotton as Alan Quinton, with Barbara Eiler as Singleton. Alan falls in love with her and seeks to understand her past.

Italy during the war, then England, including London, Belmont and Meadow Farm in Essex

Characters: Alan Quinton, Roger Moreland, Victoria Moreland / Singleton, Ellen, Derek, Dilly Carson, Beatrice Remington

Listen for: The moment Alan realises who Singleton is, and his conversation with Dilly at the station

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
