What happens

In 1500 Italy, Cesar Borgia's commander Donna Esteban sets out to take the mountain city of Chiet del Monte, and the sharp-witted captain Andrea Orsini is chosen for the task. Orsini arrives at the city as Borgia's ambassador, where he meets the aged lord Marc Antonio Varano and his young wife Camilla. The Screen Director's Playhouse presents this adaptation of Prince of Foxes, starring Douglas Fairbanks as Orsini and Joyce Mackenzie as Camilla, in its broadcast on NBC on January 4, 1951. Orsini's dealings with the court and its inhabitants grow more tangled as the city prepares for war, and his loyalties are tested by the people around him.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
