What happens

Lucky Jordan, a racketeer whose double often takes the risks meant for him, is drafted into the army and tries to dodge service through bribery and an invented family. Alan Ladd plays the title role in this Screen Director's Playhouse adaptation of the film, heard on NBC on February 8, 1951. Lucky goes AWOL from camp, meets a canteen worker named Jill, and gets caught up in a scheme involving an army briefcase of secret tank armor papers that a pair of thugs are after. The guide does not give the outcome.

A city racketeer's office, an army draft board and training camp, a camp canteen, and a road and service station outside the camp.

Characters: Lucky Jordan, Jill, Slip Moran, Angelo, Hank Higgins, Eddie, Annie, Sergeant Jones

Listen for: The scene where Lucky's double Angelo is introduced and Lucky first hears about the army briefcase.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
