What happens

Ranger Bill Jefferson and his fellow rangers in the Nadi Pine District fight a forest fire through the night. Stumpy Jenkins, the veteran ranger, grumbles through the blaze and then announces that he is quitting, and the men begin to wonder what is troubling him. Stumpy is a long-serving ranger whom Bill has known for twelve years, and his retirement plans soon become the focus of the district. The rangers prepare a farewell for him while Bill and Henry Greenwell try to understand his decision. The transcript ends partway through the story.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
