What happens
Ranger Bill Jefferson, chief ranger of the Central City forest district, is sent a replacement while Colonel Andrews recovers from an operation: George Benton, a strict Washington official who insists that every regulation be followed to the letter. Benton harshly criticizes Bill's district, and Bill's loyal rangers, Greywolf, Stumpy Jenkins and Tom Perry, become frustrated with him. Bill tries to restrain his men, but the rangers begin working strictly by the manual themselves. Ranger Bill is a radio series, and this episode aired on February 11, 1959.

Listen for: Benton's insistence on following the manual to the letter, and the rangers' response to him
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
