What happens

Ranger Bill, chief ranger of the Naughty Pine district, and his old wartime friend Abner Benson test a new fire-fighting idea: dropping a fire-retardant slurry from converted Navy torpedo planes. Ab, a former combat pilot, has been grounded after a crash that leaves him with a broken leg, and his wife Marge is relieved but worried about his returning to the air. Bill offers Ab the post of boss of the fire bombers, a ground administrative job. When a two-pronged grass fire threatens crews, Ab has to decide how to direct the operation from the ground. The series is Ranger Bill, first aired on 1962-05-16.

Naughty Pine and the surrounding woodlands, including the Cochin Canyon area, a Naughty Pine airfield, and a hospital.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
