What happens
Ranger Bill and his crew face a severe blizzard that buries the Big Prairie country near Naughty Pine. Earlier, drought-stricken farmers at Carver's Corners, Barney Carver's feed mill, had despaired of rain and talked of leaving the land. When the snow arrives, the rangers warn the farmers, rescue Doc Wilkins and a sick child from the Sims ranch, and search for Lefty, who set out through the storm with his truck. The story follows the rangers' struggle through deep drifts as the snowfall raises the question of whether the storm is a blessing or a disaster.
