What happens

Ranger Bill and his Rangers move American bison to upper pastures after heavy snows. A young bull gores Stumpy's horse, Maud, and then Stumpy himself, leaving him badly injured. Bill, Henry and Gray Wolf wait at the hospital while the Rangers pray for his recovery. Once he is out of danger, Stumpy seems to have lost his spark, and Bill decides to file retirement papers for him. The Rangers object to the decision, and Stumpy must fight to regain his strength within thirty days.

A national forest in the American West, with a buffalo herd, a ranger station and a hospital.

Characters: Ranger Bill, Stumpy, Henry, Gray Wolf, Tom, Maud, Doc

Listen for: Stumpy's accident with the young bull, and Bill's decision to retire him.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
