What happens

Chief Ranger Bill and his friends visit Ted Coates, who owns a barge line on the Shady River, to see his new tow boat, the River Giant. Ted explains that the vessel is financed by a bank loan and that tow boats push their barges rather than pull them. During a cruise, a fire breaks out on one of the barges of Ted's son Mark, carrying millions of gallons of gasoline. Bill directs rescue efforts, and the group works to stop the burning barges before they reach the town.

The Shady River and the town of Central City, in the district Ranger Bill serves as Chief Ranger.

Characters: Ranger Bill, Ted Coates, Stumpy, Mark, Casey, Harv

Listen for: Listen for Mark's fear after the barge fire and Bill's conversation with him about courage and where it comes from.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
