What happens

Ranger Bill, a forest ranger, works to protect a forest during a severe dry spell. Tom Morgan, a tower ranger, has closed the woodland after his humidity reading drops to 25 percent, below the safe level of 30. Two visitors, Dr. Harris and Franklin, are stranded by the order and grow frustrated with waiting for rain. Dr. Harris argues with Bill about faith and science while they wait. Smoke is spotted, and rangers rush to fight a fire that spreads across the valley below Tower 3. The transcript breaks off before the story is resolved.

A forest in dry weather, centred on Tower 3 and the valley below it, with a fire lane and canyon road nearby.

Characters: Ranger Bill, Tom Morgan, Dr. Harris, Franklin, Angus, Stumpy, Sonny

Listen for: The forest closure order and the humidity readings, Dr. Harris's debate with Bill about faith, and the rangers' radio calls during the fire.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
