What happens
On Phil Harris's birthday, his wife Alice and their children give him a modernistic statue, which he finds baffling and unappealing. Phil tries to dispose of the gift without hurting his family's feelings, while his friend Frankie Ramley, his neighbor Curly, and the art dealer Mr. Daniel get drawn into the matter. The show is part of The Phil Harris Alice Faye Show, which aired on NBC on January 22, 1950, starring Phil Harris and Alice Faye, with Elliott Lewis and Gale Gordon also in the cast.
The Harris household on Phil's birthday, later the home of a neighbor and an auction room.
Characters: Phil Harris, Alice Faye, Willie, Frankie Ramley, Curly, Julius, Mr. Daniel
Listen for: Phil's reaction when he unwraps the statue, and the bidding at the auction.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
