What happens

Phil Harris and Alice Faye's family plans a picnic after weeks of pleading from their children. Phil reluctantly agrees, and the day begins before dawn with a band rehearsal Phil must run first. Friend Willie Remley is invited along, which causes friction with Phil's band members and with Alice. The family sets out for the countryside, where the picnic preparations soon go awry. The Phil Harris and Alice Faye show aired on NBC on May 29, 1949.

A Sunday in the present day of the broadcast, starting at the family home and continuing at band rehearsal and a picnic spot at Miller's Lake.

Characters: Phil Harris, Alice Faye, Willie Remley, Frankie, Julius, Elliott Lewis

Listen for: Phil's reluctance about the early start, the band's grumbling over the early rehearsal, and the picnic preparations going wrong.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
