What happens

Phil Harris and Elliott Lewis, playing themselves, try to earn their keep on a quiet morning, first by visiting the unemployment bureau and then by selling tickets for a school play that raises money for the Red Cross. Their sales pitches to a distracted professor and a lady of the neighborhood go awkwardly. The story then turns to a scene from Mark Twain's Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn, in which Tom talks Huck and others into whitewashing a fence and meets Becky Thatcher. Alice Faye and the household keep the comedy moving throughout this episode of The Phil Harris Alice Faye Show, which aired on NBC on March 5, 1954.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
