What happens

Phil Harris and Alice Faye face a tense rehearsal when Mr. Scott of RCA Victor arrives with a sponsor's demands, and Phil's band members, including Frankie Remley and Curly, prove difficult to manage. Two writers, Singer and Chevrolet, are dismissed after clashing with the new sponsor. Phil decides to write a suspense script himself, which becomes a story about a husband, his unfaithful wife, and a murder plot involving a fake hospital wait, an electrician hired to rig the house, and a phone that delivers a surprise. The episode is part of The Phil Harris series, first broadcast on NBC on April 22, 1951, starring Phil Harris and Alice Faye.

A radio studio at NBC, and the house in the script where a husband and wife live.

Characters: Phil Harris, Alice Faye, Mr. Scott, Frankie Remley, Curly, Julius, Ray Singer, Dick Chevrolet

Listen for: The sponsor's arrival and the dismissal of the writers, and Phil's suspense script with its murder plot and electrified phone.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
