What happens
Phil Harris promises his wife Alice that he will stay home for the evening, but his old bandmates from the Dixieland Doozies are in town for one night only. Elliot Lewis, his friend, pushes him to join them, and the two men come up with a string of schemes to get Phil out of the house, from a fake radio contest win to a rickety ladder. Phil Harris and Alice Faye star in this comedy from The Phil Harris and Alice Faye Show, which NBC broadcast on December 4, 1953. Phil's efforts to slip away keep backfiring, leaving him locked in his room and tangled in one mishap after another.
The Harris home, and the town where the old Dixieland Doozies are playing for one night.
Characters: Phil Harris, Alice Faye, Elliott Lewis, Julius
Listen for: Phil's increasingly elaborate excuses to slip out of the house, and his struggle to escape his locked bedroom.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
