What happens

Dr. Cowdery, a physician training native medical practitioners in Suva, Fiji, meets Kamily, a young Fijian who wants to become one of them. Earlier, an American named Blake had hired a local guide to take him into the gold country, where Kamily refused to go. Cowdery reflects on the islands' people and their mix of health, faith and older traditions. As war comes closer, Kamily volunteers, and the islands take on strategic importance in the Pacific. This episode of The Pacific Story aired on November 17, 1946 on NBC.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
