What happens
Ozzie Nelson and his wife Harriet Hilliard relax one evening at home, where Ozzie browses a movie magazine and the two tease each other about old romances and Hollywood gossip. Ozzie spots a magazine contest asking readers for an essay on glamour and decides to enter. He persuades Harriet to join him at the Tocambo nightclub for firsthand research, leaving the children with their housekeeper Gloria. At the club they are seated poorly, get no menu, and end up singing for a waiter's tip. Back home, Ozzie labors over his typewriter, reads Harriet his essay, and waits eagerly for the contest results.
Hollywood, California, in the 1940s: the Nelson home, the Tocambo nightclub, and a taxi ride between them.
Characters: Ozzie Nelson, Harriet Hilliard, Gloria, Ricky, David
Listen for: Ozzie's comic reading of the movie magazine gossip and his enthusiasm for the glamour essay contest.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
