What happens

Caroline Adams, a demure small-town schoolteacher, has written a steamy bestseller, and the Linfield literary circle has condemned it. Her publisher, Arthur Stevenson, and his assistant Michael Grant recognize that the author's reputation depends on her keeping her identity secret, which is becoming harder to maintain. In the Campbell Playhouse adaptation of this Columbia Pictures story, Loretta Young plays the lead and Orson Welles is heard in the Mercury Theatre production, first broadcast on January 14, 1940. The story follows Caroline as she meets Michael and Stevenson's circle, and as her private life grows more complicated.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
