What happens
Richard Hannay, a mining engineer newly returned to London, finds a dying man named Scudder in his flat and is drawn into a secret plot involving a stolen naval secret. Hannay is accused of a murder he did not commit and must flee across Scotland, pursued by police and by unknown men who want him silenced. Orson Welles plays Hannay in this Mercury Theatre on the Air adaptation of John Buchan's novel, broadcast in 1938 on the Columbia network. Hannay uses his wits and his knowledge of the countryside to evade capture while trying to uncover who is behind the conspiracy, and he meets a stranger who may or may not be an ally.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
