What happens
Adolphus Flynn, a composer, finishes a new orchestral piece and then hears it played on the radio note for note, credited to a composer named Henri Lefebvre who wrote it years earlier. Flynn and his housekeeper, Miss Warren, track Lefebvre through his publishers and a letter from Rouen, and Flynn becomes obsessed with confronting the man. The Mercury Theatre on the Air is the series, and this production, a radio play by Lucille Fletcher, aired on July 12, 1946, with Orson Welles as producer.
A composer's apartment and later a rooming house and an asylum in Switzerland, with references to Rouen.
Characters: Adolphus Flynn, Miss Warren, Cecile Lefebvre, Henri Lefebvre, Dr. Bacard
Listen for: The moment Flynn hears his own unfinished score played on the radio, and the mounting sense that his music belongs to someone else.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
