What happens
Dr. James Shepherd, the village physician of King's Abbot, is called to Fernly Hall, where he finds the wealthy Roger Ackroyd murdered in his study with a dagger. Earlier that evening, Ackroyd had been told a confession by his neighbor, Mrs. Ferrars, who had recently died of an overdose, and her letter hints at a blackmailer. Shepherd, his sister Caroline, and a retired detective named Hercule Poirot, who has recently settled in the village, begin to examine the household's comings and goings. The Campbell Playhouse presentation of The Mercury Theatre on the Air, broadcast on November 12, 1939, features Orson Welles and guest star Edna May Oliver.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
