What happens
Father Roubier, a priest at Beni Mora on the edge of the Sahara, tells the story of Domini Enfield, an Englishwoman who comes to the desert town seeking peace after her father's death. There she meets Boris Androvsky, a silent, troubled man who has arrived on the same train. Their acquaintance grows through rides in the desert and quiet evenings, and Count Antoine, the owner of a desert garden, watches the friendship develop. The Campbell Playhouse presents this adaptation of the novel The Garden of Allah, with Orson Welles introducing the broadcast and Madeleine Carroll starring. It was broadcast on the Mercury Theatre on the Air series, which this episode is labelled with, on 19 November 1939.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
