What happens

Gabriel Syme, a young poet, meets Gregory at a Saffron Park gathering and is provoked into claiming he is a true anarchist. Gregory takes him to a hidden steel room beneath a dingy bar and reveals he is a police detective who has infiltrated the anarchist council. Syme agrees to a secret pact, and Gregory has him elected to the council's seat called Thursday. The story is from The Mercury Theatre on the Air, broadcast on September 5, 1938, and adapted from G. K. Chesterton's novel. Syme then finds himself among the council's leaders, including the enormous president known as Sunday, who are planning an attack on a visiting monarch and head of state in Paris.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
