What happens

Cranston, the wealthy young man about town, and his companion Margot Lane visit a vast underground cavern where students from a class have disappeared into a bottomless pit. After a railing gave way and the young men fell, no bodies have been found. Cranston suspects the pit holds a secret and sets out to examine it closely. The episode is part of The Mercury Theatre on the Air, first broadcast on September 11, 1938, and stars Orson Welles and Agnes Moorehead. The investigation draws Cranston and Margot deeper beneath the caverns, where a search for the missing boys leads them along hidden passages and past a guarded lower level.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
