What happens
Jane Eyre, a young governess, arrives at Thornfield Hall to teach Adele, the ward of its master, Mr. Rochester. Her quiet, guarded manner intrigues him, and their conversations grow more personal as the household settles around them. Strange events unsettle the house, including a fire in Mr. Rochester's room that Jane helps to put out. This Campbell Playhouse radio adaptation of Charlotte Bronte's novel stars Madeline Carroll and Orson Welles. The transcript does not give the original air date in its own words, so the broadcast is noted as first aired on March 31, 1940, in the Mercury Theatre on the Air series.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
