What happens

At the offices of the Star, managing editor Luke Shelton clashes with former reporter Jim Bowlin, who demands his job back and threatens him. Shelton is later found dead, and the paper's front page carries an exposé accusing gambler Jeff Corkland of crimes ranging from crooked gambling to murder. Corkland, confronted in the newsroom, insists he knows nothing of the story and says a former employee tipped him off. Reporter Pamela Carter is drawn into the investigation as the police look into the case. The story is set in the Star's newsroom and the city around it, and the episode is part of the Mystery House series, first broadcast on August 26, 1945.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
