What happens

Dan and Barbara Glenn's Mystery House staff acts out a new manuscript, "A New Lease on Death." Ken Starr, a once-successful man reduced to panhandling, is coaxed by Miriam Shelby into a plan to restore his fortunes. At a dinner party at Miriam's apartment, the host, Larry Montague, is found dead at the table, and Detective Cedric Darnay is called in to investigate the death. The guide does not reveal how the story ends or who is responsible.

A city in the 1940s, including a street in a poor part of town, an apartment and a dining room where a dinner party is held, and a police investigation.

Characters: Ken Starr, Miriam Shelby, Larry Montague, Elsa Geiner, Harlan McGrath, Cedric Darnay

Listen for: Listen for Miriam Shelby's proposition to Ken Starr and the dinner-party scene where Larry Montague is found dead.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
