What happens
Irma Peterson shares a New York apartment with her roommate Jane, and she has grown tired of living with her boyfriend Al, a man who has no job. After a psychological quiz in a magazine suggests that the two are poorly matched, Irma decides to end the relationship. Her friend Amber urges her to try the Lonely Hearts Club, and Irma begins corresponding with a stranger identified only by a number. The story is told in the My Friend Irma series, first broadcast by CBS Radio on January 26, 1948, with Marie Wilson as Irma and Cathy Lewis as Jane.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
