What happens

Irma Peterson, a young New York secretary, learns that her former schoolteacher, Miss McCloskey, is coming to visit. Having told her hometown that she is cultured and sophisticated, Irma scrambles to live up to the claim with help from her roommate Jane Wesley and their friends. Her attempts to learn the arts and worldly conversation, through an encyclopedia, a music lesson and a night-course plan, lead to a series of comic mix-ups. The episode is from the My Friend Irma series, first broadcast on CBS Radio on March 24, 1953, with Marie Wilson as Irma and Cathy Lewis as Jane.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
