What happens
Irma Peterson and her roommate Kay Foster both lose their jobs, and they hide the news from their landlady, Mrs. O'Reilly. Irma was fired by Mr. Clyde after she was locked in a supply closet and sent a garbled dictated letter, while Kay quit her job with the broker Richard Rhineland. To keep up appearances, the two women plan an elaborate party to impress Mrs. O'Reilly, inventing a menu they cannot afford. Part of the episode follows their scheming as they try to convince Mrs. O'Reilly that they are doing well. From the series My Friend Irma, originally broadcast on CBS Radio on January 19, 1954, with Marie Wilson and Cathy Lewis in the leading roles, supported by Hans Conried and Alan Reed.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
