What happens
Jane Stacey and her roommate Irma Peterson prepare for New Year's Eve, and their plans keep shifting. Irma expects her boyfriend Al to visit, but Jane is taken out by Richard, who calls at the last minute. Jane wants her looks improved for the evening, so Irma offers to lower the hem of a dress and Amber Lipscott is asked to do her hair. Their efforts go wrong when the hair lacquer Al buys turns out to be chair lacquer. This is the first part of My Friend Irma, a CBS Radio comedy from 1947 starring Marie Wilson and Cathy Lewis.
A small rooming-house room in an American city on New Year's Eve, 1947.

Listen for: Irma's mistakes with the dress and the hair lacquer, and Jane's reaction when Richard calls.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
