What happens

Professor Antoine Edwards, his daughter Lorna and his assistant Jack Martin travel through French equatorial Africa in search of a lost tribe the natives call the Golden Race. Lorna is found wandering in a trance, and two lions attack the party on a moonlit trail before an unseen marksman drives them off. Drums carry messages through the jungle that seem to know the travellers' plans. The Professor, who has acquired a preserved talking human head he believes holds the secret of lost Atlantis, prepares to break camp at dawn while his guide and porters grow uneasy. The episode is part of the Moon Over Africa series and was first broadcast on April 6, 1935.

The jungle of French equatorial Africa, at night and then at dawn, near a trail and a campsite.

Characters: Professor Antoine Edwards, Lorna Edwards, Jack Martin, Guru

Listen for: The throbbing African drums relaying messages, and the sudden roar of the lions on the moonlit trail followed by the unseen rifle shots.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
