What happens
Captain Tex Bradford and radio operator Jerry Hall sail with Mrs. Patricia Gregory aboard her private yacht in the South Seas. She has searched for fourteen years for her baby daughter, lost in a shipwreck, and Jerry has received a message about an old sailor who saw the Magic Island and a little white girl on it. Their yacht is becalmed beside a strange fog bank that their equipment cannot penetrate, and the water around it is unnaturally smooth. Tex reports that their instruments read the same from every side, and the three begin to suspect the fog is magnetized. Jerry proposes flying over it, and Tex sets up a device he has built called the straightoscope to look down onto whatever lies within.
