What happens

Comedian Skid Johnson and his singing partner Bonnie Kane work a Kansas City theater, where Skid's drinking worries the show's manager Bob Barnard. Skid's blunt pals and his fractious relationship with Bonnie drive the early scenes, and a telegram offers the pair a chance at a New York show. Skid is reluctant to leave, while Bonnie pushes him toward the opportunity. This episode of Lux Radio Theatre, aired April 25, 1949, stars Betty Grable and Dan Dailey, who played the leads in the film version. Their story follows the couple as they weigh ambition, loyalty and their own shortcomings.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
