What happens

Fred C. Dobbs and Bob Curtin, two Americans stranded in Tampico, Mexico, meet an old prospector named Howard, who talks them into gold prospecting in the Sierra Madre mountains. Pooling their savings and buying supplies, the three set off by train and then on foot into the wild country. After finding only worthless fool's gold, they reach a rich vein of ore and begin working the claim, but the men start arguing over how the profits should be divided and who can be trusted. This Lux Radio Theatre production is based on the Warner Brothers film and stars Humphrey Bogart and Walter Huston, with the broadcast airing on April 18, 1949.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
