What happens

Gilbert Morel, an editor at a New York publishing house, reads a manuscript written by Steve, the husband of his old acquaintance Anne Merrick. Gilbert says the work is good but not good enough, and advises Steve to make writing his full-time job. Anne is a chorus girl who later takes a job in a theatre show to support them, while Steve's writing stalls. Their marriage is strained by money, boredom and Steve's reluctance to make a living from his work. The series is Lux Radio Theatre, and this episode first aired on October 18, 1937, starring Fred MacMurray and Madge Evans.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
