What happens
Three elderly bachelors, Richard Gaunt, James Trumbull and Theodore Fincher, once rivals for the affections of Nina Fairchild, decide to give away the Fairchild estate to a university as a gesture. Their plans are complicated when a small girl named Sheila O'Mannahan arrives at the manor, claiming to be the granddaughter of the Irish servant who once cared for the estate. Her insistence on the existence of the little people puts the three skeptics at odds with her and with one another. The Lux Radio Theatre broadcast of Three Wise Fools, based on the play by Austin Strong, first aired on September 1, 1947, with Lionel Barrymore, Lewis Stone, Edward Arnold and Margaret O'Brien in the leading roles.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
