What happens

Wilbur Jones, a mild-mannered clerk at Carpenter Plumbing Supplies, is late for work for the first time in fifteen years, and his bus ride turns into trouble. On the street, a passerby mistakes him for the gangster Killer Manion, and the police soon arrest him. Wilbur insists he is only Wilbur Jones, but nobody believes him. Starring Fibber McGee and Molly with Paul Guilfoyle, this Lux Radio Theatre production is adapted from the Columbia film and was broadcast on February 24, 1941.

Present-day Manhattan, including a city bus, a plumbing supply company office and a police station

Characters: Wilbur Jones, Jesse, J.G. Carpenter, Mr. Seaver, Miss Badecker, Killer Manion, Mr. Healy, Red

Listen for: Wilbur's repeated protests that he is not Killer Manion, and the escalating mix-up when the police and the gangsters both treat him as the wanted man

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
