What happens
Mr. Matuschek runs a leather goods and novelty shop in Budapest, and he is suspicious of his staff. His clerk Alfred Kralik and the newcomer Klara Novak bicker constantly while the shop prepares for a busy holiday season. Alfred has been writing anonymous letters to a woman he has never met, and he dreads the evening he is due to meet her. Mr. Matuschek grows short-tempered as his employees ask for time off, and his private worries begin to surface. This is the Lux Radio Theatre's 1941 adaptation of The Shop Around the Corner, first broadcast on June 23, 1941, with Claudette Colbert and Don Ameche in the leading roles.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
