What happens

Paris, 1793, during the Reign of Terror. Citizens watch executions daily, and the nobles' only hope is the Scarlet Pimpernel, a mysterious Englishman who smuggles aristocrats out of France, signing his exploits with a red flower. An old priest in a barber shop receives a warning: the Tourneys are to be taken to the guillotine, and a rescue plan is offered. The episode is part of the Lux Radio Theatre series, broadcast from Hollywood, starring Leslie Howard and Olivia de Havilland. Meanwhile Lady Marguerite Blakeney is pressed by the French ambassador Chauvelin to reveal the Pimpernel's identity to save her brother Armand.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
