What happens

Andrew Hale, a young lawyer running for mayor of Oakmont, California, on a reform ticket, is pressed by the wealthy Commodore Parker to accept his support and a set of administrative appointments. Andrew hesitates, and his campaign manager Artie Maxwell is worried. Andrew meets Cathy Maguire, a red-haired woman who has been arrested after striking Lily Parker, the Commodore's niece, during an argument at the city zoo. Cathy claims her father was fired as zoo superintendent for refusing to display animals Parker had donated, and she believes the Commodore is using his influence over the park commission. Andrew agrees to look into the matter and visits her family's ranch, where the household keeps a number of unusual animals. The story is a Lux Radio Theatre production, first broadcast on June 25, 1951, starring June Allison and Dick Powell.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
