What happens
Dr. Samuel Mudd treats a stranger with a broken leg at his Maryland home in the early hours after Lincoln's assassination, not knowing the man is John Wilkes Booth. Mudd is arrested and tried as a conspirator, and his wife Peggy and her father fight to clear his name. Sentenced to life imprisonment, Mudd is sent to the Dry Tortugas, where a moat of sharks surrounds the prison island. This Lux Radio Theatre production stars Gary Cooper, Fay Ray and Walter Connolly, with John Carradine and Ernest Whitman, and is adapted from the 20th Century Fox film based on the life of the real Dr. Mudd. The broadcast was aired on May 2, 1938.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
