What happens
Grand Duchess Zania, a penniless exile living in a Swiss hotel, learns that her cousin Peter has been jailed over debts on motor cars bought on credit. Her waiter Albert, a clumsy but devoted servant, has been hired into her household and gradually wins her attention with an earnest petition of loyalty. Robert Montgomery plays Albert and Alyssa Landy plays the Grand Duchess, with Gene Lockhart and Alma Kruger in supporting roles. This adaptation of Alfred Savoir's play is presented on the Lux Radio Theatre, broadcast on December 7, 1936. The episode opens with the Grand Duchess selling her famous imperial necklace to pay the household's bills, and Albert's comic missteps at the hotel set the tone for the early scenes.

Listen for: Albert's petition to the Grand Duchess and her reaction to it.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
