What happens
Ruth, a young woman who has brought eight orphaned children out of wartime China, arrives in San Francisco in 1944 and needs a reputable citizen to vouch for them. She turns to the household of Commodore Holiday, a shipping man who had promised to help the children, and claims to be his widow. Ruth is taken in at the Holiday house, where Timothy, a longtime servant, and Tom, the Commodore's grandson, are drawn into her story. The episode is part of the Lux Radio Theatre series, first broadcast on March 4, 1946, starring Jean Tierney, Walter Brennan and Edmund O'Brien.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
