What happens

Abel Frick, a farmer from Iowa, prepares to take his prize hog, Blue Boy, to the state fair with his wife, Melissa, and their children, Wayne and Margie. Wayne sets out to beat a hoop-toss game operator he feels cheated him the year before, and at the fairgrounds he meets Pat Gilbert, a newspaper man. Margie, meanwhile, meets a radio singer, Emily Edwards, and the two families' plans begin to tangle with the fair's festivities. The guide follows the story only as far as the midway and the pickle and mincemeat contests.

An Iowa farm in August, then the state fair grounds, including its midway, trailer camp and dance pavilion.

Characters: Abel Frick, Melissa Frick, Wayne Frick, Margie Frick, Pat Gilbert, Emily Edwards, Simon, Blue Boy

Listen for: The hoop-toss game on the midway, the mincemeat and pickle judging, and the songs performed by Emily Edwards.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
