What happens
In 1945, Peter Carter, an RAF pilot whose bomber is shot down over the North Sea, bails out without a parachute and somehow survives. He wanders onto a beach and meets June, a young woman, and they fall in love. Meanwhile, in the next world, a conductor named R-34 insists that Carter should be dead and must be brought to heaven, and Carter prepares to contest this in a trial. The episode is a Lux Radio Theatre presentation from October 27, 1947, starring Ray Milland, Brenda Marshall and Nigel Bruce.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
